I have enjoyed your alfresco dining photographs and suggestions. I live in the deep South and we spend most of our time on our covered porch in the warm months. Two problems I have which have never been addressed, as far as I know, are: (1) in the heat of a summer night, a ceiling fan helps but it almost instantly cools down the food on the table. Where are the super-quiet, small, subtle area fans that could circulate air closer to the floor so the food isn't cold? And (2) someone needs to design a lantern that will hold a taper and has a cover on top (ventilation on sides) that keeps the ceiling fan from blowing out the candles. Tapers give out a great deal more light than other types of candles. Hurricane Lanterns help with a horizontal breeze from the lake, but not from the ceiling fan. Pottery Barn has some that almost fit the bill, but some of them are huge - way too big for a dining table. And the designs are often clunky. Does anyone have suggestions?
